Author Bio

authorArlene is a retired US Army, Joint Special Operations Command Master Sergeant. During her military career she developed a passion for research, counseling, and helping others.

After retirement, she interned as a School Psychologist where she began writing. She authored, created, and facilitated an At-Risk program for a high school in an urban school district in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She accomplished great success working with teens diagnosed with schizophrenia. This program also attained great success in dealing with gang leaders, gang members, homeless students, and teens suffering drug addictions. Due to the success of the program, she developed and presented a mentorship program which linked at –risk middle school students with US Army Soldiers.

Arlene has spent the last eighteen years conducting in depth research in the areas of pedophilia, borderline personality disorder, and bipolar disorder. She has completed extensive interviews, live chats, board discussions, and counseling sessions with victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, mental illness, and lifelong abuse who are struggling to cope with the challenges of life. Her main focus is improving the lives of victims of bipolar and borderline personality disorders.

She has served as a Sexual Assault Victim’s Advocate, Rape Crisis Group Facilitator, Crisis Counselor, Positive Psychology Course Facilitator, Domestic Violence Advocate, At-Risk Group Counselor, and Child Crisis Counselor. Arlene works extensively to improve the nation’s perception of mental health. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and an Affiliate of the International Positive Psychology Association.

Bipolar Moments is her second published work. Her first, “Borderline Traits” is referenced in the textbook Abnormal Psychology: Neuroscience Perspectives on Human Behavior. Both books are references for personnel wishing to research the lifestyles of minority women with personality disorders. Her research of bipolar and borderline personality disorder has shown that the behaviors, of most of these women tend to mirror each other and it holds true across different races, cultures, and lifespan. Bipolar Moments explores this theory and focuses on understanding and loving people with bipolar disorder.

Arlene is an alumna of Chaminade University of Honolulu, Hawaii where she was awarded an academic scholarship and completed an Associates of Liberal Arts. She attained a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Excelsior College. She is certified in the art of Positive Psychology Resilience Facilitation by the University of Pennsylvania and is trained in Conflict Resolution. She holds a Master’s of Science in Psychology from Walden University. Arlene is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and resides in South Carolina with her children.
